The NeighborWorks Achieving Excellence in Community Development program is a unique and innovative approach designed by NeighborWorks America with renowned organizational performance and learning expert Douglas K. Smith working in collaboration with Harvard University.  Achieving Excellence trains approximately 50 experienced leaders of sophisticated community development corporations each year, to increase their organization's performance in specific and challenging ways. NeighborWorks America provides organizational assessment services to help nonprofits build their capacity as community developers. Two types of assessments are offered through OAS: one is known as PROMPT™ and includes onsite capacity and performance assessments; the other is a multi-year financial health assessment conducted off-site.   NeighborWorks America is the leading community development training provider offering a number of training venues including NeighborWorks Training Institutes, symposia, Community Leadership Institute and other forums that draw a national audience.  In order to respond to the growing demand for high quality community development training at the local level, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC) developed “place-based" training courses conducted on-site for interested community organizations. Success Measures at NeighborWorks America
 

Success Measures is a social enterprise at NeighborWorks America that provides a range of outcome-focused evaluation services and tools for community development organizations and their funding and intermediary partners. Our outcome-based evaluation method is highly participatory and includes training, technical assistance and a Web-based data system that is comprised of 50 common outcome indicators and more than 115 corresponding data-collection tools. Since its launch in mid-2005, Success measures has been used by 170 community development nonprofits and 14 funders and intermediaries to create and measure both short-term milestones and broader, long-term impacts. The following are available in the NeighborWorks Store:

Realizing the American Dream: This manual is the definitive resource for homebuyer training and education. Developed by industry experts, it covers the entire homeownership process from evaluating credit worthiness and affordability to closing on the best deal.

Keeping the American Dream: This manual focuses on critical information consumers need to maintain their status as a homeowner. Important budgeting considerations as well as home maintenance and improvements are the focal points of this reference guide.

NeighborWorks Center for Homeownership Education and Counseling (NCHEC) Consumer Homebuying Guides: These four consumer-focused guides cover the various stages of the homebuying process. NCHEC now offers these handbooks to organizations as a supplemental resource. They deliver practical and specific information in a user-friendly format, and are a great complement to the Realizing the American Dream trainer and homebuyer manuals, and Keeping the American Dream homeowner’s manual.
